StumbleUpon unwrapped

Few things can hold my attention these days.  In a society where attention is becoming a valuable commodity, an online presence is extremely important.  So, in an online environment where the world is literally at your fingertips, how does one come to learn about what is really out there for the surfing?  Well one could technically start at the letter a and work your way through the alphabet making up words and adding the .com at the end to see what comes up.  You could do a google search and hope for the best OR you could log in to a site called StumbleUpon.  StumbleUpon allows the user to select a list of interests and customize the 'stumble'.  When you click on the Stumble button the website then sends a billion little feelers out and pulls back several different options for you to view.  As websites open up onto your screen you have the option to 'like' them or not.  If you like them, they are saved to your profile for future use if you do not (and here's the best part) then StumbleUpon learns not to pull any sites similar to the one you disliked thus creating a list of your favorite things in the world.  Another great feature of this site is the ability to share your favorite stumbles with your friends across the various social media platforms.  There is a share link for emailing, a share for Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Discover, then share the wealth!

Another brilliant use for this website is self promotion.  Users are invited to post their own websites or sites that they would like the world to stumble upon.  This is an excellent way to increase traffic to your website for your product or service.  So give it a go.

These are just a few of the many different sites that StumbleUpon is able to drum up for your viewing pleasure.  It's a simple click away and you can start enjoying the different sites that the internet has to offer.  A word of caution however...once you start it may be difficult to stop and you may look up to realize that you have spent the better part of an hour or two stumbling all over the place.     Oh man, I used to use StumbleUpon. If you aren't careful it will eat up all of your time! :( I think I finally gave it up when I hit something like 500 stumbles a day...

    That was a dark time.

    Mental Floss is awesome though. I second your recommendation!

So there's this new social media thing. The "anti-facebook" out there in the virtual space. It is calling to all to join and not letting anyone join at the same time.  The elite, those with the coveted golden ticket can enter and partake on the newest social media site.  The Ello.co site is invite only while it is in beta testing.  I was fortunate enough to be able to access through someone in one of my Google+ circles (see Google+ is good for something :)).  I had a slight bit of difficulty entering the site because I was granted an invite, but just one I had to type in myself not the actual formal email invite.  So because I was trying to login using the regular ello.co site, and not the ello.co/join site, I had some issues BUT eventually we figured it all out and I was in.
